Perhaps you would agree with me that we live in an especially tender age in the life of our country and the world. Between now and the election, would you please join me in praying for the presidential election, as well as all of those serving in elected positions?  Paul writes in 1 Timothy 2:1-2:”I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone-for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.”

Do you ever feel powerless to make a difference in the monumental events which shape the world?  I know I do.  But the Bible is clear.  Our prayers make an enormous impact.  We want to “live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness,” and prayer is the crucial first step.

I’ve shared with you from time to time that I’ve been led to pray as Jesus did during “the 4th watch of the night,” those precious hours between 3 a.m. and 6 a.m.  Between now and November 6, would you join me for 4th watch prayers?  I’ll be praying especially for the elections, our leaders and the United States.  I’m not asking you to pray for the whole three hours, but rather simple, heartfelt prayers inspired by the Holy Spirit. Then please be sure to vote as the Lord leads you.

I leave you with the words of President John F. Kennedy, delivered on January 9, 1961.

“…I have been guided by the standard John Winthrop set before his shipmates on the flagship Arbella three hundred and thirty-one years ago, as they, too, faced the task of building a new government on a perilous frontier.  ”We must always consider”, he said, “that we shall be as a city upon a hill-the eyes of all people are upon us”.  Today the eyes of all people are truly upon us-and our governments, in every branch, at every level, national, state and local, must be as a city upon a hill – constructed and inhabited by men aware of their great trust and their great responsibilities…”
